I love Faber’s writing. This is a great analysis of the text. Found the film version of this story extremely moving as well—it has stuck with me in a way that movies don't always.
Ty!! & I felt the same way about the movie, which I saw in theaters years ago. It was a smart adaptation; I'm realizing it essentially turned the novel into a novella (cutting it off at the 75% mark, and maintaining the mystery of her purpose as long as possible).
